Description: The Combined Guitar & Bass Repair and Electronics Repair and Upgrades seminars are bundled for the student who would like to gain a thorough understanding of instrument repair for both acoustic and electric instruments. The Guitar & Bass Repair workshop presents essential procedures for a variety of guitar, bass and other string instrument repairs which may include headstock break and crack repair, bridge replacement, brace repair, saddle alteration, body crack repair, finish retouching, fret repair, proper set-up principles and electronics troubleshooting. The instructor will share proprietary techniques and reference traditional repair methods all with a strong emphasis on quality and craftsmanship. In the Electronics Repairs and Upgrades students will learn techniques required to fix an instrument’s electronic problems, how to select components, upgrade electronics, and how to design and build their own guitar circuits to achieve the best possible sound and reliability. Students will also learn how to read schematics and layout diagrams. Each class is divided into part lecture and demonstration and part hands-on training. Tuition includes lecture/demonstrations, class Q & A, student handbook with reference materials, the use of specialized tools, guitar workbench and shop supplies. 15 hours. A must for any builder, guitar tech or roadie! Materials and Supplies All the tools required will be available for the student's class use. Schedule Two weeks of mid-weeknights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, 7 pm - 9:30 pm Instructor Ian Schneller is the founder and chief instructor of the Chicago School of Guitar Making. With over 800 handmade instruments bearing his Specimen name, he brings a wellspring of knowledge to the classroom with the mission of perpetuating the tradition of handcraft and design innovation. He has shown his work in a variety of museums around the country and is a faculty member of the Sculpture Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago How to Register: Registrations are limited to 8 students.
